The Satellite Design Project is the focal point of CSI’s SWE Chapter. The objective of this project is to give members hands-on experience with building a satellite. The tasks assigned to each member correlate to their field of study, allowing them to benefit from experience they may not have had before. Members studying Electrical Engineering will typically be tasked with electrical-based work such as solving for voltages and troubleshooting circuit problems. While, on the other hand, members studying Mechanical Engineering will be given tasks such as using AutoCAD to finalize the outside satellite structure. The project also encompasses Computer Science and Astrophysics majors who contribute their field’s specific curriculum to piece together the essential programming needs the satellite will run on.
